Man who catch fly with chopstick accomplish anything.

LOS ANGELES Nov 25, 2005 — Actor Pat Morita, whose portrayal of the wise and dry-witted Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid" earned him an Oscar nomination, has died. He was 73.

FULLY STORY

As many people know, Pat Morita holds a special place in my heart. My all time favorite movie is The Karate Kid and one of my all time favorite TV shows is Happy Days. He appeared on both.

RIP.

For All The Turkeys Who Celebrate Thanksgiving

I have gotten a bunch of hits lately for the "Basted in Blood" video. The link from my original post of this awesome song changed so here is a new link for Basted in Blood. Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

Music and my brain

As I was preparing green beans for tommorow's Thanksgiving dinner I was listening to my iPod and Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" came on. I stood there breaking the green beans and I was able to sing every word to that song.

So, I am wondering if the Barnaked Ladies' song, One Week came out when I was 13 and when my brain still had some plasticity to it, maybe I could actually get the words to that song too (and remember them 16 years later).

Oh well, here's to aging (not so) gracefully.

Goblet of Fire

Thankfully, Soccer-Dad (David) wrote about this movie because I totally would have forgotten to write about it if I hadn't seen his post. G-d knows I have had blog writers block for the longest time, so any chance that I can actually sit down and write something cohesive (sort of) is cause for a celebration.

ANYWAY, Greg and I went to see the movie on Sat. Night. We were both somewhat nervous because we really enjoyed the 3rd movie and the reviews for this were mixed. One reviewer really scared me because he said that this movie wasn't paced well and we all know that that was the biggest problem of the first 2 (especially the second) movies. I am glad to say that while the pacing wasn't 100% perfect, it really wasn't bad.

I enjoyed watching the actors/characters more grown up. They do humor very well now, it is like they actually get the jokes. Like David, I was thoroughly enjoyed the performance of James and Oliver Phelps as Fred and George Weasley. They have really made the characters their own. It is interesting that Draco Malfoy was a prominent part of a movie and neither was Snape. Luckily, Hagrid's lines were minimized (Sorr,y, he is my least favorite character). One dissapointment was that they didn't have Krum do the whole "Hermioniny" thing. I always enjoyed that part of the book. Luckily they left in Ron's line, "You're fraternizing with the enemy!!". Rupert Grint did that pretty well.

I like Daniel Radcliffe as Harry and I think his acting as matured considerably since The Sorcerer's Stone. I do feel; however, that he doesn't act out emotion well. His smiles and laughs look very fake and his scared scenes seem contrived. He is better for conversation and humor. Oh well, can't have it all. The teenage girls next to me didn't seem to mind his lack of acting skills. They were drooling all over him. Barf.

Anyway, I give this movie two thumbs up. Nicely Done. I didn't like Book 5, so it will be interesting to see how that movie turns out...

I should have worked for Capital One!

Finally, after much googling and the like, I found out who the "Chubs" guy, who co-stars on the Capital One commercials with David Spade, is. You might also remember him from the hysterical Volkswagen commercial as the guy who had a bit too much fun test driving the car and the most recent Enterprise Rental Commercial (which is not funny at all). His name is Nate Torrence and I just can't seem to get enough of him. He is a great character actor and it would be great if he expanded his acting repertoire past commercials and occasional guest spots on TV.

In the meantime, I will think of him whenever I say "No", when I drive my Volkswagen (ok, that is a lie, I don't own a Volkswagen-whatever), when I use my Capital One card (or Citibank or Chase), and when I drive an Enterprise car rental. Oh TV, how you enrich mylife!

Happy Anniversary M and A!

Today is my parents' 35th wedding Anniversary (incidentally, it is also my good friends Donna and Sam's18th anniversary and her son Yitzy's Birthday)! I am sure they can't believe they have been married for 35 years. I'm personally happy they got married.

I created an onlysimchas page for this occasion. If you want to wish them well, feel free to go there and sign in!
