Red Sox Win! We don't Sleep!

world series 001.jpg

world series 002.jpg

As you can see, both our older kids woke up to watch the end of the game last night (in all fairness, Gila woke up herself, Greg woke Ezra up). The top picture is during the bottom of the 9th inning, the second picture is obviously when they won. It was really awesome and I am glad Greg and the kids witnessed this historical event together. Once again, Greg's father cried when he called us.

Needless to say, it took a while for everyone to fall back asleep, but hopefully it was worth it!

Amazing Race 6 Preview

To see a preview of the Amazing Race 6 Teams, go here and click on 'Amazing Race' Kicks Off'.

Alright, let's get down to business. Right now, unless they turn out to be totally annoying, I am rooting for Avi and Joe (you knew I would want the 2 nerdy Jewish guys to win) and Don and Mary Jean. Who are your picks?

Hmm

I just realized that this blog had its first birthday yesterday. I can honestly say that I didn't think it would last this long. Cool.

It gets easier

As a parent of a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and an almost 2 month old, I often find myself overwhelmed with a stage that my child is in. I read an amusing article by a woman named Elinor Lipman (in surprise of surprises Child Magazine ) that helps put some perspective into the stages that our children go through (and sometimes seem to stay in for too long). Ms. Lipman wrote about the concerns she had when her son was young and how they have been resolved now that he is and adult. This article calmed me down and made me laugh. Here is an excerpt:

What we didn't know at 1 year or at 6 or 12-was that everything would eventually work itself out. A partial list of early parental concerns and their outcomes include:

Then: Bad Sleeper. Now: Age 22 years and 10 months, sleeps through anything, naps anytime, anyplace, on any surface. Then: Crawled late, stood late, cruised late, walked at 17 1/2 months. Now: Walks, drives, skis black diamonds. Then: Watched too much TV, played too much Nintendo. 2004: Graduates from an Ivy Leage college. Then: Suffered acute anxiety when left with anyone but mother, father, grandparents. 2004: Moves 3,000 miles across the country, whistling all the way. Then: Shy. Now: Exceeds his 500-minutes-per-month cell phone plan. Then: Addicted to breast milk, followed by cow's milk, chocolate milk, and juice not from concentrate, which is to say: teeth at risk; blamed myslef for not promoting wather as most delicious beverage. To this day: Not one cavity. Then: Not interested in toilet training. Today: Bathroom issues limited to wet towels on the floor.

Puts it all into perspective. To quote my mother, "She won't go to college wearing diapers, don't worry."

Last Night's Game

Thank You, G-d. We woke Ezra up to watch the last 2 innings. Greg's father had both of his sons and his grandson on the phone at the same time after the game. I think he was crying.

Tonight's Game

I was brought up a Baltimore Orioles fan. I was more into them when I was younger and I haven't gone to as many games in the past few years, but were they to make the playoffs, I would definitely be rooting for them and losing some sleep.

I married into a family of Boston Red Sox fans. My father-in-law grew up in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and lived within walking distance from the stadium there. He has instilled an appreciation for this team in his two sons as well. Since moving to Maryland, my father-in-law has had season tickets for the O's, but his and his sons' true allegiance will always be with the Red Sox.

This having been said, I implore the powers that be to please somehow make the Red Sox win tonight. I am confident that they can take the game and the series from the Yankees. I am just not sure I could live with Greg if they don't.

Apprentice Gripe

So now that NBC airs the Apprentice extra Boardroom footage on Saturday nights, the boardroom on thursday nights is ridiculously short. It doesn't even make sense when you are watching it. This is an annoying yet extremely brilliant thing for NBC to do. Argh.

Speaking of the Apprentice, after my victory last season I had a winner for this season picked in my mind after the second episode; yet shortly after I made the pick, all Apprentice betting was suspended after there were some leaks about the two finalists. I can only say that one of the two finalists leaked was my choice as the winner (he still is, regardless of the leak). That kills me.

That Time of Year

I can deal with the fact that it will be cold. I just hate this in between time of year when I can still vividly recall the warmer days of summer, yet my bones are starting to chill.
