Interesting Stats

Up until today the highest amount of visitors I have gotten on this blog per day was about 85. I just checked and today I have had 212 and it is only 6:30 pm. Why the rush to this blog? Paul Hamm. For some reason Penny Stock comes up on the first page when googling Hamm's name. Crazy.

Olympic Hatikvah

gal.jpg

Thanks to my friend Sara who just sent me this link to a video clip of the medal ceremony in which Gal Friedman won Israel's first Olympic gold metal.

I have two feelings about this. First of all, how can you not get emotional while watching all those people draped in Israeli flags singing Hatikvah out of sync with the Olympic orchestra? I had tears in my eyes.

My second thought is a bit more cynical. I find it a bit ironic that roughly a little more than 2000 years ago, the Jewish People fought against a set of values and social norms that the Syrians/Greeks(during the time of the miracle of Chanukah) were oppressing them with and now we are marvelling at an Israeli wearing the Olympic crown. I have always laughed at the irony of the Jewish sport games and teams called the Maccabia and Maccabies. The historical maccabees were the ones to stand up and fight to defend the Jewish People against the nation who put such emphasis on sports and the idolotrous nature of it. Just a thought.

In the meantime, watch the video- it is still pretty darn cool.

Everyone's a critic

How should I take it that my five year old just walked downstairs to where Greg and I spent the night cleaning and organizing and accusingly said "why is it so clean down here?!?"

I hate crickets

It's bad enough that they have somehow managed to enter my home in small groups of 2 and 3 over the past week, but when I can't sleep at 3 in the morning, there is nothing more annoying than the chirping chorus.

Note to self: Get the screen door fixed. Argh.

Paul Hamm

ATHENS - After Paul Hamm's remarkable comeback to win the Olympic men's gymnastics all-around title last night, Bob Colarossi, the president of the U.S. Gymnastics Federation, said: "I think we just hung a medal on the best U.S. gymnast in the history of the sport."

Oh my, I just woke up to this news. I went to sleep right after Hamm fell on the vault dismount. That is just too cool. Nuff said.

Fresh Pizza- a thing of the past

I came to a realization today. Not one that will shatter the earth or even matter to anyone besides me. But, like it says on the top of my blog; I write about things that are important to me.

Anyway, I went to the store to get containers of all different sizes because my mother-in-law was at the house cleaning out the toy closets today (she volunteered to keep the kids home with her while I ran the errand). I was starving so I decided to go next door and pick up a slice of pizza from one of the local kosher pizza shops (hint: it has been open for 20 years; incidentally, I was there the day it opened). I got the slice and a small soda to go and I ate the piping hot pizza in the car on the way home.

I have to say this. The pizza was awesome. It was crispy the way I like it, hot, and tasty (I am really not being sarcastic). I started thinking and realized that I can't remember the last time I had truly fresh pizza. We either order in pizza that tastes like salty, cold rubber by the time it gets to the house or if we go out, I am usually so busy taking care of the kids' needs that by the time I sit down for my slice it is cold and soggy.

This is not a gripe, just an observation. I wonder when I will have fresh pizza again...

Words of the Oh So Wise

Overheard (by me) while standing on line in the post office this morning. Man on cellphone on a business call:

"She can be really tough. She is going to be inanimate about getting her way."

Sheesh. I almost laughed out loud- I rarely do that.

Worse Than a Minivan

magnum_sxt.jpg

Is it just me, or is this new car, the Dodge Magnum, awful looking? If I wanted to drive a clunky station wagon, I would buy a used one like this and take the extra money and use it for a vacation or something else.

I just don't see the anti-minivan, SUV loving people rushing to drive this car. Welcome back to carpool in the 80's.

A name, for He Who Must Not Be Named

August 04, 2004 - Confirming rumors that have persisted on the internet in recent weeks, it was announced this evening that actor Ralph Fiennes (Red Dragon, Schindler's List) will play H@rry Potter's evil nemesis, Lord Voldemort, when he returns in the flesh in H@rry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

FULL STORY

Not bad, not bad. We already know Fiennes can play a believable villian (think Schindler's List)- this should work as well. The biggest problem is all of the age discrepancies . Weren't Hagrid and Tom Riddle supposed to be close in age? Robbie Coltrane seems a lot older than Ralph Fiennes. And they should both be a fair amount older than James Potter, Severus Snape and those guys. Alan Rickman is MUCH older than Ralph Fiennes. Oh well. I still think it is a decent casting though.

The above article also lists the casting of many other Goblet of Fire characters. Check it out.
