Here are my random thoughts for today.
-It is so nice to feel a chill in the air inside my own home (thanks to the several thousand spent on a new air conditioning system)- I have not experienced this in the 3+ years we have lived here.
-It is good we don't celebrate Christmas because if we did, we totally still have the Christmas lights on our house. Nuff said.
Gosh, this is the best thing to happen to Jeopardy since Darryl Hammond on the Celebrity Jeopardy skits of SNL:
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A Utah man is the new "Jeopardy!" king, having pocketed more than a half-million dollars during a dominating 16-show run on the quiz show.Ken Jennings was seen on his 16th straight "Jeopardy!" episode Wednesday, winning once again to bring his total winnings to $512,959.
I have been watching Jeopardy the past few nights and kudos to this dude. I feel bad for the other players though. They look defeated before the show even begins. Can you imagine if you finally get on Jeopardy and you get there and they are like, "by the way, you are playing against a guy who has won more than half a million bucks already, but don't feel any pressure!"
As I have mentioned before, my brother-in-law is the bassist for the band, O.A.R.. I enjoy looking for signs that the guys are getting bigger and occasionally I come across some interesting things. This has to be the funniest/stupidist thing I have found in a while:
via e-bay
You are bidding on the actual cups that Marc Roberge from O.A.R (OF A REVOLUTION) drank from after his concert on Sunday, June 20, 2004 in Nobelsville, Indiana. I guarantee his lips touched this cup several times.

Starting bid is .99 and no one has bid yet. I guess the guys haven't made it yet...
I don't know if the archives of this blog will still be around in 17 years when the cicadas return, but I wanted to put this year's cicada experience on the record so I can look back and remember and tell my kids that they weren't THAT bad.
So, all in all they lasted around a month. The newer developments barely had any. The first week wasn't so bad. The second and third weeks they were flying around like mad and many, many, many landed on me (I don't know why I am so lucky) on and around various body parts (no joke). It was annoying, but I perfected the art of the "flick off" (no not that kind you crazies!) and it became almost a game to me. The sound was deafening on some days yet it usually died down when darkness came. The smell was pretty bad but not bad enough that I couldn't leave my home. Ezra grew accustomed to the cicadas but did not attempt to pick them up or play with them. Gila shrieked every time she saw one and I had to carry her from the house to the car and from the car to the house for a month. The last week they were around but not that crazy. Now they are all but gone and I gotta say, I sort of miss the little guys...
So, it is only about 3 weeks late and completely unacceptable for people who consider themselves REAL H@rry Potter fans, but Greg and I finally went to see H@rry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night. We saw it at the historic Senator theater. I have comments about the movie and about the theater.
First the theater. I hadn't been to the Senator since the first 3 Star Wars movies were re-released about 7 years ago. First of all, when you are used to stadium seating in movie theaters, it is annoying to have to worry about sitting in front of someone and having someone sit in front of you (especially if you are like me and are only 5 feet tall) and blocking your view. That having been said, the Senator is always a cool experience. It really brings me back to watching movies in my youth. From the curtain that covers the screen until the movie starts, to the ushers who actually look like ushers- it is a classic movie going experience. I am not sure if the old and ugly bathrooms should be part of the classic movie going experience but that is just a gripe.
Now to the movie. Within the first 5 minutes, Greg and I looked at eachother and whispered that we were already convinced that it was better than the first two movies (by the way, sorry to the people around us- Greg and I tended to whisper a lot last night-but come on, it is H@rry Potter!). I am so glad they switched directors. Alfonso Cuarón did a great job of making sure that the movie only had plot lines necessary to the story in it. Yes, there were a few aspects that had changed from the book- but they were not glaring enough to be considered outrageous. When I saw the second HP movie, I was bored to tears and kept wondering why EVERY SINGLE story line needed to be part of the movie. The bottom line is that it is a movie and not the book- you don't want them to be the exact same or then no one will appreciate the literature.
It was interesting that most of the book took place outdoors in a Hogwarts that was virtually unrecognizable from the first 2 movies. Greg had major issues with the characters looks but hopefully he will blog about it (either at Presence or at Hpprogs) so I will let him discuss that.
I have a lot more to say about this movie, but I don't want to be boring. Let's just say that I really enjoyed it and actually look forward to owning it- unlike the first 2 movies which I regretfully own.
Here is an interesting tidbit of info- Paul McCartney singer and song-writer of the song "When I'm 64" turned 62 today. Two more years to go, Paul. So, ya think she'll still be needing and feeding him in 2 years?
Disclaimer: I do not know a lot about computers, software, hardware or much of anything. This is all just an observation, don't jump on me if I am incorrectly talking in your language.
I signed up for a G-mail account yesterday. I don't really have any intention of using it at this point but I got an invitation to sign up and I didn't want my name to be taken (ya hear that all you pennygersh's out there!). Anyway, this morning I went to check my yahoo e-mail account; which, up until last evening had 89% of the storage capacity filled. When I logged on I noticed that the format is now prettier and Yahoo mail is offering more storage space. 100 MB to be exact. Because I don't know the difference between MB and my right toe I don't remember what the storage capacity was before today. What I do know is that now, even though I have all of my existing e-mails on the account, I have only taken up 5/100% of the storage capacity.
I can only assume yahoo is being "magnanimous" because of Gmail, but Gmail is still offering a way more generous 1000 MB for FREE! (whereas if you want to up the amount of MB on yahoo, you have to pay for the account). So my question is, why is Yahoo doing this? They are offering something but it is still no way as desirable as Gmail.
Someone please explain this to me before I lose sleep tonight- I can't afford to lose sleep.
Who would have thought the innocent girl from Pikesville would have these results?!?
Greg's dad just e-mailed this picture with the subject line "at the game". First, I hope Greg doesn't kill me for posting this picture (you will all know that he wasn't happy when it isn't up tommorow...). Second, it is crazy how far technology and this wonderful thing called the internet has come. I just started going through another round of boxes from my parents garage and I found a bunch of printed e-mails between my mother and myself from when I studied in Israel for a year, around 10 years ago. Anyway, in one of the e-mails my mother advised me, "Peninah, try not to type in caps- e-mail etiquette mandates that this looks like you are screaming." We were in the beginning of the internet revolution at that point.
Now it is commonplace to e-mail real time pictures to people and blog about what is happening now. Where will things go within the next few years? I wonder.
I am sure this has been all over the blogosphere for the past few weeks but I am just finding it now. A mother has chosen to punish her son by selling his PlayStation 2 on Ebay. Read the whole story.
Thoughts?
Comcast finally came today to fix our internet and I am finally back online (minus a few minutes of checking my e-mail at my sister's). It is crazy, we have only been offline since last Thursday, but it really makes a difference. For example, I needed someones phone number yesterday and I could not find it in any of the telephone books I had. It was a classic case of needing Anywho and I couldn't use it. I felt so lost. On the other hand, I think I got more done around the house. Hmm, should I be happy that I am back online?
BOULDER, Colorado (AP) -- Brian Bonsall, the youngest member of the Keaton clan on television's "Family Ties," was arrested last week on suspicion of drunken driving.Bonsall, 22, was arrested early Friday by police who said they saw someone vomit out the passenger side window of his car. Asked how much he had to drink, Bonsall responded, "Plenty," then failed a roadside test.
I am not even sure why this is in the entertainment news portion of CNN.com. According to IMDB.com, the last time Bonsall did any acting was in 1994. Obviously the kid decided not to continue his acting career, why must the media flash his wrongdoings all over the news? Let him be.
The title of my post makes me sound a lot more excited than I actually am, but nevertheless, it is pretty cool that onlysimchas has an RSS feed. Good for yentas like me.
