Stupid Human Tricks

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Cell phone users have been known to complain about poor service, but one New York man's mobile literally went down the toilet.
The man was on a suburban train from Grand Central Station on Wednesday night when he went to the bathroom to make a phone call, dropped the phone into the toilet bowl and then his hand and arm became stuck trying to retrieve it, officials said.

The obvious question being: If you dropped something down the toilet on a New York City commuter train, would YOU stick your hand in the toilet to get it out?!?

To tell or not to tell

I keep trying to decide whether to send out a mass e-mail to my address book announcing, "Hey I've got this blog- it will not make any impact on your life, but in case you are interested in entering my random thoughts-here is the link!" The biggest reason I don't want to do that is not because I am worried that people will judge me, criticize me or invade my privacy. It is more because I don't want to answer the questions, "what is a blog?" "why do you do this?" "what's the point?". The majority of people I would send it to are relatively clueless (NOTE: IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE SOMEONE I USUALLY E-MAIL AND YOU CAME ACROSS THIS ON YOUR OWN, I DON'T MEAN YOU) about the blogging world and all that transpired in the past few years. Granted, as I have mentioned before, I am less than computer savvy, but I am a frequent reader of at least 10 blogs and I am extremely interested in the ramifications blogging will have on the media, education and society.

So for now, my readers are my family, connected individuals from Baltiblogs and the other city-blogs, and random people who happen to click on a link to my blog or search for some key-word I mentioned in this. Do you think anyone searched for Rerun yet?

I'm on the list

So, the boys from Protocols have put me on their list entitled "Jews who Blog". I'm wondering how they found me and once they did find me, why couldn't they have the common curtesy to put the "h" at the end of my name?!?

UPDATE: They added the "h". WooHoo!

Hogwarts Headaches

From clickondetroit.com
Doctor Blames 'H@rry Potter' For Kids' Headaches
Dr. Howard Bennett, a pediatrician writing in this week's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, said he had three otherwise healthy children between 8 and 10 years old complain of headaches for two to three days last summer. One child also complained of neck and wrist pain.
After some questioning, Bennett found that all three had been reading the 870-page "H@rry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" book for six to eight hours a day. Two of the children read while lying on their stomachs, and the third propped the book on her legs and rested her head on a pillow.

I am a huge HP fan, but I have to say, I wouldn't be too dissapointed if some of these kids parents sued JKR and Scholastic Books for their kids "undue suffering." I am not a proponent of suing for no reason, but hey, maybe this will cause JKR to stop being so unnecessarily verbose.

Is this life that we live just the world’s accident?

So, it turns out Greg wasn't entirely joking when he said I should rename my blog with some catchy title and make it about people who died. He said there may be a big market for that. I will leave that for another discussion. But to continue my death theme, I just wanted to write about today's weird coincidence. Don't worry, after today I will pick up the mood in my posts!:)

Today, I went to make a shiva call (a traditional visit to a Jewish mourner within the first week after the deceased has been buried) to a friend of mine who lost her mother. Her mother had Multiple Sclerosis. Shiva (the first seven days of mourning) is being observed an hour away from Baltimore, and the people observing shiva are somewhat isolated, so it is understandable if news from B-more hasn't made it there yet. Anyway, I found out this morning that another friend from here's mother passed away this morning as well and the funeral was to be this afternoon. So, while I was at the shiva call, I told my friend about the death of this other friend's mother because I knew they were definitely associated with eachother- I just wasn't sure how. Anyway, it turns out that the woman who passed away this morning had multiple sclerosis as well ( I knew that but didn't make the connection). Anyway, the two friends of mine had been roommates while in Israel for the year and they introduced their mothers because they had the same medical condition. Their mothers became friends with eachother and often offered each other moral support in times of need. My friend was very shaken when I told her of the other woman's death and she said, "we were just talking about how we were going to tell her that my Mom died- I guess we don't have to now."

I can't help but think of one of my favorite quotes from my favorite band, "Is this life that we live just the world’s accident?" Not a chance.

The Glass is Officially Broken

"She" of the weblog unbrokenglass.com got married today! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this blog, it has been written by a single women in Israel who kept track of her worst shidduch dates and subsequently kept thousands of readers entertained every time she had a bad night. Good for her. Maybe now she will come out of anonimity. Then again, maybe not- she might need a forum to complain about her marriage- ONLY JOKING!

COME ON to the city on DOWN

'Price Is Right' announcer dies
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Rod Roddy, the flashy-dressed announcer on "The Price Is Right" whose booming, jovial voice invited lucky audience members to "Come on down!" for nearly 20 years, died Monday. He was believed to have been 66.

Full Story

How sad. First John Ritter, then Rerun, now Rod Roddy. My childhood TV icons are all dying. May Rod be calling down over-anxious, jumping up and down, weird t-shirt wearing game show players in the big soundstage in the sky. RIP, Rod.

Told you so, Told you so!!!

ESPN.com news services
The Boston Red Sox, still smarting from a bitter seven-game loss to the rival Yankees in the ALCS, fired manager Grady Little on Monday.

Full Story

If I had this blog during the ALCS playoffs, I would have written about how Grady Little should be sacked from the Red Sox organization. I sure told enough people. I honestly do not know if the Red Sox were thinking of getting rid of him before the playoffs, they say they were. But the bottom line is he royally messed up during the last game. Supposedly this guy is a stubborn old codger who doesn't usually let his players sway his opinion during games. Well, what happened? I am not going to get into my feelings on Pedro Martinez's behavior during the last game (although I am still wondering when the letter I was put into the word team) but Little should't have let an egomaniacal player, who wanted to go down in baseball history books, be the one to decide whether to stay in the game or not. Why was I, everyone at home, and in the stands able to see that Pedro had enough even before Little went to the mound to talk to him (and let him stay in)? It is ridiculous.

So what happens now? Well I don't know what will happen in Boston- I think it will take them all a while to get over such a heartbreaking defeat. I am just hoping against hope for Baltimore's sake that the Orioles don't replace Mike Hargrove with Grady Little. Oy.

That time of year again

For those who don't heed every newscaster's and radio DJ's reminders, this is a public service announcement to remember to turn your clock's back one hour tonight for daylight savings time. In case you have been brought up in a cave, CNN has this friendly "explainer" (no joke, they call it an expainer- is that even a word? I thought the correct word is explanation) of this.

An interesting tidbit of info: the time change is not taking place in Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa. All stay on standard time year round. Who knew?

But I haven't even started...

Well, wouldn't you know it, I was just about to make my first entry on this blog but I decided to see what Greg had to say in his blog today and I came across this. Let me just mention that Greg is the one who suggested I start a blog since I "was cluttering up his email box with something that he could get via a better medium (READ: blog)." Alrighty then, if the world is really interested in reading about Rerun's death (which happened to have been the interesting tidbit of info I e-mailed to Greg that got this discussion started) and other random happenings in the world and my life, then by golly, I have a blog to write. Here goes nothing...
