Well, technically I didn't fight it but it still won anyway.
In March 2007, Montgomery County, MD rolled out their new speed camera system.
On September 25, I happened to be driving down Randolph Road at the deplorable speed of 47 (in a 35 MPH zone). I received a ticket in the mail for $40 complete with 3 different pictures of my car which was automatically recognizable not by my license plate (you think I know the number?) but by the Mischief Managed bumper sticker I sport on my rear bumper.
Up until this point I have prided myself on never having recieved a speeding ticket- I mean sure, I have been sued for half a million dollars after a car accident (settled for $1500 incidentally), but I was never one of those people who had a good speeding story. Sad thing is that I still don't. I don't have the "license and registration, Ma'am" story or the "me trying talking/crying myself out of a ticket" speeding story.
I have been told by a lawyer friend and cousin that eventually someone will argue about the constituionality of this whole thing since technically there is no proof that I was the one driving the car. However, I have also been told (by a husband of mine) that I won't be the one to argue about the constitutionality of this whole thing.
So, in the meantime, I'll pay the fine, hope it doesn't happen again (surely it will because honestly, 47 in a 35 MPH zone is hard to feel) and hope that I can still claim never to have been pulled over for a long long time.
Posted by peninah at October 9, 2007 01:13 PM | TrackBackI am considering a ban on you taking carpool. Will Greg mind covering for you?
Posted by: szt at October 9, 2007 01:51 PMI think that's why you only got a fine and no points - because they can't prove it was you who was driving. I guess they can hold the owner of a car responsible for whoever may be driving it...and that's why they can even fine you.

Posted by: bubbyt at October 9, 2007 03:49 PMoy vey!! sorry that happened!!
Posted by: bubbyt at October 9, 2007 03:53 PMGlad to see you again after almost three months. . .sorry about the ticket. Unfortunately, we've received a number of those in our household, but now we know where most of the cameras in Baltimore City are located.
At least you didn't get the points! That's a good thing. :)
Posted by: jstein at October 9, 2007 07:17 PMBe careful on Randolph Rd. I once read that 75% of tickets in Montgomery County are on Randolph rd. There is a police station on that street. I also learned this lesson the hard way about ten years ago.
Posted by: Izzy at October 10, 2007 09:40 AMWell yesterday when I drove on Randolph I realized just how difficult it is to drive slowly on that street. Crazy. Glad to know I am not alone in this.
Posted by: Peninah at October 10, 2007 01:14 PMSorry to hear about the ticket...but did you and Greg check out the deleted scenes of last week's office at nbc.com/theoffice...there are 4 and they are better than many of the non-deleted scenes.
Posted by: Avrumi at October 10, 2007 09:44 PMIt must be running in the family after my ticket on 270 on my way to Pittsburgh.....(did you hear about it or did Greg forget to tell you that, too?!) Montgomery County is looking for some revenue, I think.
