Today is my last day of work before Pesach and I will be off for the whole holiday (not such a huge deal since I only work ~20 hours a week). I was just talking to my boss and telling her about the seders (the first I'll be hosting 24 people and the second I'll have 9) etc. And she said, "at least you don't have to worry about the cleaning and stuff right? And I told her, "wrong". She was under the impression that if you keep kosher the whole year, you don't really have to do all the major changes for Passover (one of her old co-workers didn't keep kosher normally and went crazy for pesach so this gave her that impression).
So now I am thinking, this is a great idea. We should get a "get out of pesach free" card or something like that. Hey, I work hard and keep kosher all year round, I don't eat out with my co-workers when they go to good places for lunch, I am careful with the halachos. Therefore, this should be my time off. My freedom from slavery (l'havdil).
I know this is ridiculous. I was just thinking about what it would be like if my boss's misconceptions were true. Oh well. Gotta drive home soon so I can cook and clean...
Posted by peninah at March 27, 2007 01:37 PM | TrackBackThere actually are people out there who get this card. It's because they're crazy enough to keep their homes, cars, etc. chometz free all year long. :)
Posted by: Shaindl at March 27, 2007 01:42 PMWell that is just ridiculous. I hate those people anyway.
Posted by: peninah at March 27, 2007 01:50 PMYou know how I feel about all those people whose kids have been eating chometz on their porches since January (in all kinds of weather)...or the people who have "countdowns" until Pesach. Yes, it's a lot of work...but there is something nice about spending Yom Tov with family (said by one who is fortnuate to be planning to spend Pesach with my wonderful 2 daughters..thanks, girls!!)

Hope to see you over Pesach!
Not to play the BT card (because we know how left out Peninah feels when we all remince about Roy Rogers, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut), but I think that we should get a deluxe version of this card.
Posted by: Lanie at March 27, 2007 09:20 PMLanie- I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. I have been dealing with Pesach MY. ENTIRE. LIFE.
I am not belittling the BT thing (some of my best husbands are BTs) but you are going to have to go with me on this. Also, your choice dude.
Posted by: peninah at March 27, 2007 10:11 PMPlease note that the thought of Pesach is making me very stressed out and mean.
That said: P-Dawg, Pesach cleaning = http://www.hpprogs.com/?
Also, I totally agree with Dani's Mommy - if I wasn't BT I wouldn't be having an anxiety attack about making it to Baltimore before candle lighting and not losing my job.
P.S. On behalf of your other husbands offense was taken.
P.P.S. P-Dawg G-Money rocks! I can't wait to enjoy the fruits of your labors!
Posted by: Diana at March 28, 2007 09:30 PMWe were just learning a gemara in the second perek of Pesachim this week there a Tanna briefly floats the idea that women might be exempt from not eating chometz on Pesach, since it seems time-bound.
Unfortunately, he then goes does to quickly shoot the thought down with a proof / exposition on a seemingly superfluous word that means women must be included in those rules.
But - for about two seconds - you were just *so* close. :-)
