Well it was only a matter of time. Eden has been a little monkey since before she was born. When I was pregnant with her, the week before I gave birth, I was told she was facing the right way and ready for delivery. Then two days before she was born I was told that she was breech and that I would have to go for a procedure to turn her the right way. On the day she was born, I went to the hospital to have the procedure and was told that she had turned herself the right way. The doctors learned their lesson and decided to induce me before she had a chance to turn herself around again.
Anyway, since that time almost exactly two years ago, Eden has been quite the monkey. She can often be found crawling down the steps head first, climbing up and over the couches, jumping from the ottoman to the couch and other equally dangerous stunts. Anyway, last night she decided it was time to try to climb out of her crib. Unfortunately, she was unsuccesful in her endeavor and she ended up falling out of the crib. Anyway, after much screaming and a few hours, we figured out that she wasn't moving her left arm.
We took her to GBMC at around 1:30 AM and at around 4:30 we found out that she broke her arm in two places. Her arm is now splinted and she will get a cast tommorow. She really looks pretty pathetic. Right now she is crying and trying to get me to take the splint off. This next 6-8 weeks should be fun...

Posted by: AlanLaz at August 29, 2006 02:39 PMOh no! Poor Eden. Casts on little kids are no fun for the parents.
Posted by: Sara K at August 29, 2006 04:30 PMAlan-yeah, it might have to become a morning nap too, now.
Sara-that is what I was thinking
Posted by: peninah at August 29, 2006 06:14 PMoy, I'm so sorry to hear this! Poor you guys. As an OT, do you get to at least pick out the color splints and stuff you need?
Posted by: aishel at August 29, 2006 11:03 PMWell, I am not an OT (just a lowly SLP) but we were able to pick out the cast color this morning and she got hot pink!!! She is actually doing great now. She pulled the splint off in themiddle of the night but luckily she won't be able to pull the cast off. The hardest thing is getting the motrin in her. Luckily the doctor said that she only needs th ecast for 3 weeks. Thank G-d!
Posted by: peninah at August 30, 2006 11:43 AMWhy did I think you're an OT? Anyway, to make sure she doesn't shake it off at night, the straps have to be on TIGHT. We had a lot of fun with this with kids on my internship at Sinai.
Posted by: aishel at August 30, 2006 02:42 PMPoor Eden!! I hope her dress for Eliana's bas mitzvah matches the cast--at least she'd be a coordinated two-year-old!
Posted by: Lara at August 30, 2006 02:43 PMAishel-all the therapies overlap, no biggie on the assumption that I am an OT (my sister is actually an OT). The Doctor purposely put the cast over her elbow and up her upper arm so she can't slide it off
Lara-would you believe that I have no idea what any of us are wearing to the Bas Mitzvah?!?
