OK. New airline restrictions. I am usually the first to agree that even though we travelers may feel inconvenienced by stricter security measures, in the end it is better to be safe than sorry. This is especially true in light of today's news about the foiled terrorist plots. I still agree with these security measures.
I only have one question. Why did this have to come to light a week before Greg and I fly across the country with our three kids in tow? I am worried that by next Sunday, we won't be able to bring snacks on the plane. Some are speculating that passengers won't be able to bring any carry-on items. G-d help me if one passenger gives me a rude look if my kids are acting up because I couldn't bring snacks or toys on the plane.
Posted by peninah at August 10, 2006 07:54 PM | TrackBackI agree. We flew to Detroit several hours before all airline travel went to hell. Yes the same place where two people were picked up for involvement in terror operations.
I'm worried that on the way back they're not going to less bring some milk we've stored up for the baby. I've heard that they're making you confirm its real by having the parents taste it...ewwwww!
I had a flight on Thursday afternoon. It took about 1/2 hour to get through BWI security, but that's okay because they only only ONE LANE open! On a normal Thursday afternoon, it would have taken me 5 minutes. I'd packed the night before, so when I saw the news Thursday morning, I took stuff out of my bag (I hate to check luggage), and I bought more stuff once I got here. But the delays were incredible. Everything was delayed, people were missing flights (not my fault they didn't get to the airport early like they were told; I got there 2 hours early and got to sit around), and there was weather in the midwest which messed everything up. It took me 9 hours to get halfway across the country. Should have been 4. And the only kosher restaurant in Midway (where I spent many, many hours) was Ben & Jerry's, so that was my dinner!
Posted by: Lara at August 13, 2006 04:11 PMOK, just got back to baltimore via plane, and let me tell you, security was a BREEZE! And I'm not kidding. We spent less than five minutes in line, and they didn't even check our bags. We told them we had breastmilk in our bags, and they were totally cool with it, no taste-testing or anything like that. We had gotten to the airport over two hours early expecting it to be a madhouse, but there were so many TSA people, that things went very smooth. When we landed in Baltimore and got to the security checkpoint, there were only four or five people in line, the place was EMPTY of people (this was around 7pm, not sure what time you're flying).
So come early, but don't make yourself crazy. Again, they let us had all our carry ons. Also, they don't allow drinks, and if you buy drinks after security, you have to finish them before getting on the plane, as they don't allow any bottled beverages on board the plane.
Hope this is helpful!
