Some might say that my adulthood started when I became a Bat Mitzvah. Some may say that it started when I graduated high school or college. Some might even say that it began when I became financially independent from my parents or got married. There would be those who would argue that I officially became and adult when I had children of my own.
All of these people would be wrong. At the age of (almost) 29 and a half, today, the 23rd day of March, 2006, I have officially become an adult.
I made myself my first cup of coffee ever, drank it, and finished it.
To quote Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie, JARHEAD, "My combat action has commenced."
Posted by peninah at March 23, 2006 09:05 AM | TrackBackAt first I was like...what the heck, you don't know how to make coffee? And then I realized that I still do not know how to tie a tie. I suppose I will become an adult when I take 5 minutes out of my time to actually learn how to tie one.
Posted by: AlanLaz at March 23, 2006 10:36 AMAlan- of course, I KNOW how to make coffee. I have just never made it for myself or drank a whole cup. I was never into coffee but something told me I should start this caffiene-induced euphoria ASAP so I can get through the next few weeks without falling on my face.
Posted by: peninah at March 23, 2006 10:41 AMYou didn't become an adult, you became a SUCKER. The coffee companies, like their brothers in the cigarrette industry, are involved in a deeply concealed consipracy in partnership with the govermnet and big industry, to addict the populace to their so-called "coffee." In truth, coffee is nothing more than a drug, fed to the working class to increase productivity and lull them into a false sense of happiness, while at the same time slowly sucking off their hard-earned money to fund their ever growing Indonesian wallet/sweat shop industry. All you FOOLS are soon going to WAKE UP, without the "coffee" you are craving and realize the TRUTH. And if you don't you'll be left behind, and the rest of us TRUE BELIEVERS will live happily, calmly and without yuppie sensibilities.
FREE YOUR MIND!

Posted by: Rena at March 23, 2006 02:05 PMCoffee doesn't make one an adult - it makes them a happier and better person.
Posted by: Moishe Potemkin at March 23, 2006 06:10 PMYou are right about that Moshe P. !! Penny...wanna join me at Starbucks one morning?
Posted by: coffee drinking mom at March 23, 2006 06:43 PMDoes that mean I became an adult at about 7/8 years old (give or take) when I used to visit my grandparents in Canada and they would let me make coffee? I still can't grow a decent beard...I wonder if there is a connection.
Posted by: Avrumi at March 23, 2006 11:31 PMDon't worry Avrumi, we won't accuse you of being an adult ifyou don't want to. But it is highly possible that the coffee stunted your growth! I wonder what my excuse for being short is.
Posted by: peninah at March 24, 2006 07:26 AMPenny, congrats! Can we have a party to celebrate this milestone? Let's make it at Starbucks ;)
Posted by: Sara at March 24, 2006 12:05 PMMy child has sensory integration disorder and is nine years old. I blog extensively about my daily trials and joys with her. Today was especially rough so I went in search of other bloggers who might know what I'm going through. It's so nice to know I'm not alone. We havent started therapy yet but I cant wait to get started. I hope it really does make a difference because i cant cope wiht many more days like today.
