The Boston Red Sox, still smarting from a bitter seven-game loss to the rival Yankees in the ALCS, fired manager Grady Little on Monday.
Full Story
If I had this blog during the ALCS playoffs, I would have written about how Grady Little should be sacked from the Red Sox organization. I sure told enough people. I honestly do not know if the Red Sox were thinking of getting rid of him before the playoffs, they say they were. But the bottom line is he royally messed up during the last game. Supposedly this guy is a stubborn old codger who doesn't usually let his players sway his opinion during games. Well, what happened? I am not going to get into my feelings on Pedro Martinez's behavior during the last game (although I am still wondering when the letter I was put into the word team) but Little should't have let an egomaniacal player, who wanted to go down in baseball history books, be the one to decide whether to stay in the game or not. Why was I, everyone at home, and in the stands able to see that Pedro had enough even before Little went to the mound to talk to him (and let him stay in)? It is ridiculous.
So what happens now? Well I don't know what will happen in Boston- I think it will take them all a while to get over such a heartbreaking defeat. I am just hoping against hope for Baltimore's sake that the Orioles don't replace Mike Hargrove with Grady Little. Oy.
